Im not 100% sure on this, but i think it was because they had different ideas as to where the game was going....

I agree with the above but im not 100% sure about it being official although im sure ill be proved wrong
. It says on wikipedia that no-one actually knows why they split, but as i said i mostly agree with what NepentheZ said

SI wanted to continue to make the game more realistic and stuff while Eidos wanted to make it a bit more like FIFA manager.
