would we still be playing it if they didn't split? i would, and it probably wouldn't be as good...
i remember when games mag Mean Machines split and done separate mags for Sega and Nintendo. I bought both, but quit on Sega after a while... much like FM05 & CM5.
glad i made the right choice.

| Even if they didn't split, (which im glad they did), everyone on this forum would still be playing, because had that occurred, Eidos/SI would have still had a monopoly on the market. Now its SI/Sega who hold the Monopoly... Even though Eidos are trying hard, they will never get a database that SI hold, and even if they do, by time they get it SI will be even further advanced. Only really a potential new client could break SI's hold on football management games, and if you're honest with yourself, they will fail too, because SI are already working towards the next best thing after FM, ... FMO.
The people at SI should be very happy with themselves, they have a client base for life, and the only way they will lose that is by neglecting the development of the game, and the mass of bug issues that come with each new release.

i honestly couldn't remember such an uproar when fm07 bugs were discovered after release, which suggests 2 things:
1. the obvious; that 07 was a better (or easier) game.
2. there were MANY new FM players. i have seen established members saying similar things to amateur members, but for the most part, FM vets were happy to re-learn how to win in this version. most didn't have to.
so in theory, all these people who swear that they will never buy 09 won't be a loss to the fanbase (they'll probably buy it regardless), there will probably be more converts from CM and Fifa Manager on ratio.

FM07 was just as big an uproar, the only difference is that with FM08 its about a small handfull of bugs over & over again and people POSTING IN CAPITALS.

| 1: Every CM/FM release for as long as I can remember has been accompanied by people shouting about how the latest versions is the worst/buggiest/hardest yet and how they've never seen a game as shoddily released as this etc etc. They perhaps had a point about CM4 which was pretty buggy but at least had the honour of being very different to what came before.
2: probably some truth in this. There does seem to be a trend for the noisiest people to be the newest. This has always been the same too, though.
IIRC, one of the main reasons for the split from Eidos was SI's refusal to work on a PS2 version of CM which seems to have been a direction the publisher were determined to follow. I'm sure there were many other reasons that contributed but this is the one I seem to remember.

3. Your memory isn't what it used to be due to
[a] over consumption of alcohol
[b] over consumption of thc
[c] being a gold fish
[d] all of the above being a strunk gold fish. |

| and the numerous comments, not all intended as criticisms, made by people who have shown the ability to discuss tactics intelligently that suggest that the last patch of FM07 actually had a better match engine.
