Yeah, I know a lot has been said about the boards in this game failing to acknowledge progress towards or even the achievement of it's long term expectations. Not going to post another moan about that, but what has been on my mind recently is whether the other competitions are considered and if so to what extent.
Admittedly I could test this out for myself but I thought I'd ask around here first. I realise that winning cups generally makes the board happier with you and less likely to allow your contract to expire without renewal, but I get the feeling that it's not quite enough.
Say you hadn't met their long term expectations by the time your contract was due for renewal but had succeeded in securing the Champions League title, would this be enough? As I say I haven't been able to test this for myself, but I have the sneaking suspicion that the answer is no, the board wants it's expectations in the domestic league met and winning even such a big competition as that would fail to win them over should you fail to meet the expectations domestically.
Perhaps the boards long term expectations could maybe say something like 'challenge for the title or win a major trophy'. Of course, they would have to realise you'd won the trophy, which might be difficult if they fail to realise you're challenging for the title with a season finish of 2nd place
