It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Problems playing against 4-2-3-1

I have been having some success in my Man Utd game after reading Cleon’s Sheffield Utd topic

Cleon's Topic

I have set my team up in a basic deep lying counter attacking 4-4-2 using Cleon’s instructions as a solid base and only tweaking here and there to suit my players

Last season I won the league by 5 points but this season I am struggling to produce the same level of performance and consistency. I am still winning games abut I have not been able to keep a clean sheet for the last 12 games.

The problem is a lot of teams are now starting to play a 4-2-3-1 against me.

SCAML AMC AMR MC MCDL DC DC RB

I am having basically 2 problems.

1)Diagonal balls in behind my full backs
2)Being out played in Centre Midfield.

I want to continue playing a 4-4-2 but I now need some help to deal with this re-ranking problem

Thanks

1) For the diagonal balls in behind the full-backs there are two options, neither of them very Manure-like though (sorry I'm a Liverpool fan :p )
The first option is to switch to 3 at the back with wingbacks. Have your centre backs move out wide when you have the ball to cover counters, also have at least one anchorman back to help out.
The second option is to push your defenders further back. Play closer to your own area, stop your full-backs from pushing up, and in worst case scenario, play a sweeper.

2) For being outplayed in centre mid, try splitting your midfield into a diamond. A playmaker (eg Scholes) at the tip, who drops back to help out when needed, and a full-time anchorman again to tie up their AMC. Also try experimenting with different players out wide, could be that players like Park-Ji-Sung and C. Ronaldo aren't particularly interested in helping out your centre mids when you haven't got the ball.

what happen there?

as i was saying i have tried attacking with a high DL and sitting deep / defensive mentality but nothing seems to work.

i think that sometimes the re-ranking it to excessive.

Aston Villa finished 4th in the first season and were relegated the next

Spurs who finished 3rd in the second seasons are currently in the bottom 3 after in December

I tend to just choose one of my defenders to man mark the single striker.

Then if the wingers are causing a problem use full backs to tight mark them.

You could also just hard tackle their midfielders I find that does the trick now and then

i struggle with the same tactic, but only when it's 3 amc's with sarrows....i get killed by the amc(middle one) pulling out my defenders while the striker moves into the gap...i can dominate the games, but will ALWAYS concede at leats 1 or 2...those road goals have killed my euro runs the last two seasons
