Is there a relationship between width and passing focus?
Im asking this because way from home i want to play narrow with mixed passing. It doesnt seem logical as "you deny opposition space through middle" with narrow, so mixed seems counter productive.
Is it better to play narrow and through the middle?

I find that width only really comes into effect when you have possession. I use my width-passing-tempo theory that they should all be the same (or at least close) to good effect.

But to answer your question properly, it would be better to focus passing through the centre if playing with a narrow width, and focus passing down the wings with a wide width.
I always have passing focus as mixed as I don't want to force options onto my players unless the opposition is playing with 3 centre midfielders, then I'll focus down both flanks.

OK.So for a mixed passing game away should i have normal width, with mixed passing and normal tempo.
width doe affect when you have possesion, but if you lose ball and ur very wide ur players might not be able to become narrower quickly. I've noticed on dead normal away i always ger cut through the middle.
thanks for reply

Mixed passing, width and tempo is good for away games, I use 10 for all of them. In easier away games I reduce the passing and width to 6.
I only use short passing at home, except for some away games like I said above. I don't like to focus through the centre as I want to utilise my wingers more.

cheers.Im using a flat 442 formation away from home.I find that if i use a normal mentality i get a lot mor chances. Only problem is with no DMC's ur CD's are vital, im ussually letting a goal from a flick on past my last defender or when one defender goes to close down(he's on rarely) there's a gap. so what closing down do you suggest for my CD's

I have the CD of my DCs at 6. Don't have it anymore than that as you want them in position, just like the full backs, who I have on 8 or 9 CD IIRR. I let my midfielders close down the opposition, whilst my defenders are there to get the tackles in if the opposition get that far up the pitch.

I also have my DC's on CD 6 but fullbacks on 10 or 11 to stop dangerous crosses. Then like suggested in the manual my wingers and 1 striker close down first notch often(not sure if enough).everyone lse on mid point team mixed CD.

Yeah I have wingers and STs closing down a lot, too. I also use opposition instructions to help stop crosses.
