So does anyone else want to try and get their wingers to cut inside and be more of a creative influence on the game like Arsenal?
Basically the only way I can think of to make this happen is to give diagonal arrows to the wingers. You could give them a simple side arrow but then they would get in the MC's way.
After testing this in my recent Man City game it does actually work the diagonal arrow. Basically it does not make them play like an out an out central player, they simply play more central than a normal winger but are still slightly to the sides of the strikers and central midfielders. This pretty much perfectly emulates the Arsenal style of winger.
Second thing to consider is what instructions to give such a player?
I'd put crossing on mixed and possibly from deep? Don't really want them going to the byline do we? Crossing I believe should be mixed just in case there is an opportunity to play a ball into the box from their slightly wide area but only if it is a good situation to try this.
I'd still want them on run with ball so they can open up space by beating their man but still having the backup of the MC's behind them if they lose the ball.
I would then put through balls on often and also possibly turn on long shots to often but only if their long shots are decent as this could potential lead to wasted possession if balls are constantly flying over the bar.
So yeah that's my idea of the more creative and cutting inside winger. It's working well in the early testing I've done so far. Obviously it works better with shorter passing so that the midfield is not bypassed. I also find that with the wingers in central areas I can afford to use my box to box player as another holding player instead, possibly a more creative one because there are already attacking options in the centre with the wingers cutting inside.
One more thing - I find this style of play still works well with a wide width setting because this allows you to still get width from the fullbacks even though the wingers are cutting inside.
So what do you guys think of this setup. Can you think of any ideas on how to improve my currect ideas? Or have you ever tried getting your wingers to cut inside before?

Wingers that cut inside - Discussion Thread Post #2
I have thought about this before, I had it working on my Liverpool game. Then I found it worked using a 4-2-3-1 formation or even 4-4-1-1 with a 4-4-2 there is less space for them to cut in. And putting a player thats left footed on the right helps and have long shots on often... because to shoot they have to cut in.
