It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Defending A slender lead

What tactics/formation does everyone use to defend a slender lead (e.g 1-0 up against Man Utd) and only 10 mintutes left ?

Well you could play counter attacking football.

I would try to keep the ball also, this means shorter passing, slower tempo.

You could take off a striker and bring on a defensive midfielder, which should allow you to play a deeper line.

I also set time wasting to 20.

The opposition will be attacking, if there is ine goal in it they have nothing to loose.

Playing the counter is gamble, if you have the players then keeping possesion is a better option.

Time wasting seems to work will for me to wind down the clock

Hope this helps.

Sometimes I use a similar formation to the ai's 3-3-2-1-1 to park a bus in front of the goal and it seems to work well.

I believe that if make the decision to defend, then you should defend all the way. What I do is:

1. Switch to the standard 5-4-1
2. move mentality to Ultra defensive
3. creative freedom to little
4. passing short
5 tempo slow
6 width narrow
7. untick counter attack
8. turn off all forward runs

the short passing keeps possession and it is better to defend with the ball than to lose it trying to counter and go up two.

turning off forward runs keeps you from being caught out.

I do concede from time to time (usually on a thirty yarder or a free kick) but it has been working most of the time.

Hope it helps. It is frustrating to have a win in hand and have them pull level in the 89th or 90th.
