ive started a game with valencia an villa just inst performing anywhere near where i thought he would. i'm about 15games into the season and he's scored 3goals in 12games. i'm playin him as a lone striker in a 4231 formation. and i was jus wondering if i should sell him an replace him or give him time as i have stancu and saviet sittng in the reserves.
alought with the money id get from him i could bring in anyone.
currently thinkin about briand, martins or aguerro or should i stick with him as zigic is scoring as my lone striker an hope he hits from i have 15mil in transfer funds an should get at worst 20mil for him.
Play Villa upfront with Zigic and he should be running riot. Villa is not the best player to play alone I wouldnt think. Give him a partner and he'll perform.
I dunno if this would work in FM08, but in 07 I played Villa as a lone striker with 3 speedy, talented AM's. Ben Arfa on the left, Rooney in the middle, Ronaldo on the right. The 2 wingers both had arrows into the box. Villa was absolutely monsterlike in that game. Before I had Ben Arfa, I played 2 wingers and 3 mids and that worked just fine as well, same deal with the wingers and their arrows.
Buy Van der Vaart (or stick with Rooney), put him in behind Villa, set him as attacking, run with ball, high creative etc, then set Villa as a target man - if you want to play that way.
In my experience (not with Villa, but with decent target men) he should start knocking them in after 2-3 games playing like that. Also means the wingers and AMC/F get more chances too.
Play Villa with a strike partner and he will soon be banging them in, he's one of the best strikers in the game imo.
Also from my experience playing a lone striker never results in goals.
i agree with a lot of the stuff said including getting villa strike partner. im playing as valencia myself had an identical problem.
Zigic was good sometimes but no the solution but i realise all i needed was the right partner and playing the right tactic to suit them both. with your finance available you should be able to get deal for Aguero( mayb include a little installments to increase the fee) and if not try other player similar maybe saivet i dnt think hes right yet. This not only sorted the problem for me but also the basis for my future success.
Promising future with the aquisition of saivet, thats is if dnt loss him. but where is aaron?
I didn't have that problem with Villa. I played with "The Winning" tactic, Villa being the lone striker and he scored more than 1 per game on my Valencia save.
Set him as targetman, maybe then he'll have more chances.
