I actually plan to use Almunia for half a season (loan), then Coupet for the 2nd half of the seson when he returns from his injury.
The only keeper I want to buy is Ustari, who has a PA of 195 in this game. I've offered £30M but they rejected so it will cost me his release (£30.5M) to buy him. I plan to buy him at the end of the season as Coupet will be 35y.o and a little too old to continue.
Apart from my GK, is the rest of the team strong enough to play in the 1st season?
I was considering buying Menez, but my scouts say that Ben Arfa has the potential to be as good as Fernandez, and a leading attacking mid in future. I don't want him sitting on the bench, and he's playing on a 7.50 so far after 8 matches so I'm satisfied with him.
However, if he starts playing on 6s, I can move Keita to the left and play Govou on the right, or even Belhadj/Grosso can be ML.
So yeah, I don't want to spend about 12M on Menez because he'll just be a rotational player.
I agree so far though, my GK and ML is the weakest area in my team though, and I'll make transfers in January if they are under-performing.
I know that you've got a really stong squad, but IMO you should go for a GK - Ustari is a bit expensive though - maybe Ochoa? You could try to unsettle them to get them for less.
I know you're not convinced but I second the vote for Menez, purely because he's a player Lyon would be quite likely to buy IRL, and he's very good. He's best on the left wing and him and Arfa can be long-term replacements for Juninho. The real advantage is that hey can play all over the midfield and up front and has a PA of 180 which will make him one of your best midfielders.
My final suggestion would be to sign Breno for CB. You have some good, but not great CB's, and Breno would suit Lyon's transfer policy. Again it would be a purchase for the long-run.
