Is everyone talking about the same aquaplaning? I always took it to mean that results would come and go, wins, losses, draws, and nothing you do would change form in anyway (you've lost control) thus a slip into poor form, losing streak, might not be aquaplaning, because you might've done something to create that.
So I don't understand associating aquaplaning with losing several in a row. As I understood it's a session where you might win 3 lose 3 and draw 3 with no rhyme or reason or even interest as nothing matters (as is the case with aquaplaning a vehicle, nothing matters until you magically come out of it, or hit that tree--I never saw it coming.)
Here's the link to the original thread I just found.
Aquaplane.

I was talking to Doug (Guinness) the other day and we were discussing CM, as one does, and I made the following observation.
Have you ever aquaplaned in your car, or hit black ice?
You know the bit, just after driving along in total control, when the back wheels, or the front end, starts to slide, when you lose control completely, you can turn the wheels or brake, or ease off the power, and you have no control of the direction of the car until gravity and friction and the Good Lord decide to supply some grip and you regain control and drive off...until the next water or ice patch.
CM 03/04's like that.
You play away, tinkering with tactics, changing players and formation, you eke out the results, and then you hit the six-game streak where nothing you do has any relevance on how the games go. It can be five games, it can be many more, but no amount of tinkering or changing can affect how the results go, until gravity and friction and the Good Lord decide to let you regain control.
I finished nightshift at 0700 this morning, got into the house about 0715, showered and ate, then about 0745 decided to play CM, in the quiet of the absence of the wife and kids.
Apart from about 30 minutes when my uncle arrived for his cup of tea and chat I've played since. 13 games. We've won 6 drawn 5 and lost 2 and I feel it's had absolutely nothing to do with me.
It's been a wholely unenjoyable experience.
The main difference between aquaplaning and CM is that with CM you don't end up in A&E.
