Bleh, the more cups the better for me!! I like a diversion from the league and they tend to come along at different times of the season. Admittedly my league form with Halifax did suffer when I had a mad cup season with loads of games, but it was well worth it.

Generally I get knocked out of 1 or 2 fairly quickly anyway so they are hardly a problem. With Ross County in Scotland I've had just 3 cup runs in total in 6 seasons and developed an unenviable reputation for getting dumped out by lower league clubs. When you start your management career by getting thrashed 5-0 at Gretna who were 2 divisions lower you know the only way is up

I usually sign a half dozen teenagers in the (usually vain) hope that one of them will turn into a star, so I normally have enough spare players to rest most of the first team. I also usually exceed my wage budget I do take the FA Cup seriously and play the first team., so I'd likely put out the regulars against Chelsea.

He's entitled to his opinion, and I mine. I understand his reasons for not liking cups but I disagree.

Good cup runs get fans excited, and can bring in valuable revenue.

I like cups for the same reasons you do, but the league form will definitely suffer. So, i've got a bit of a dilemma.

It's not unrealistic in times of fixture congestion to give your players time off between games. They'll cope with the Wednesday-Saturday-Wednesday cycle a lot better if you don't have them running up the side of a mountain on the days in-between.

Cup runs do not have to be to the detriment of league form.

Agree on the revenue. However, I'm disappointed by the turnout for most cup games. Even away draws to premier teams, where they would sell out IRL seem to play to half full grounds - not a sign of excited fans. Apparently a good proportion of the virtual fans think cups suck ass.
