I was playing CM today and went to loan a DM/C. I didn't bother offering any wages as I never have done. The club accepted and he is on loan with me for the season.
When I was looking at my team by wages to see who I could cut, it dawned on me I have signed this player on a yearly contract and I am not paying a thing for him. I didn't like this and terminated the deal. You may think I am crazy, but see it like this....
Would a second Division club loan out one of it's squad members and happily continue to pay his wages when he is up north playing for Scarborough?
I am not too convinced. Perhaps if it was a premiership club and they could afford it, or the player was non-eu. I have now decided that I will pay at least 1/4 of a loan players wages.
Has anyone ever considered this while playing LLM and even though the club don't want any wages paid by you, do you still pay some of the players wages?
I tend not to pay wages as I'm often only loan when I'm in dire need in a position, and often I can't afford wages. I will give him first team action which may help his development. If I can afford them, I will often pay a small amount.
That said, I rarely let my own players go on loan for free. So I understand your point CraigO.
Yes, i've had the same thoughts as you. Not paying any wages at all is just not realistic. Especially when the loaned players are coming from the same level of clubs or thereabouts.
Other than that, i've noticed you can't loan a player from abroad without paying a good part of his wages, if not all of them. But clubs from the same country will always accept to loan players to you without asking for any compensation at all.
Usually, I loan players from teams the division above, so I'm doing them a favour by getting their player some games. Sometimes, if the lad is a big earner, I'll offer a bit, but not often. That said, I use loans sparingly anyway.
Nah, I disagree fellas. When players like...thingy...from Wolves went on loan to Clyde he was on about £5k a week with them and Clyde were skint. He got first team football, Clyde got goals, and Wolves got an experienced man back.
Same with...wee black Welsh bloke...at Morton. They couldn't pay him, but got 4 goals, wee bloke got experience and his Club got back a goalscorer.
Big Clubs often farm out youngsters to Lower League Clubs to toughen them up and give them regular football, no way the wee clubs pay their wad.
I agree with iajafer on this one too. I think it is safe to say that many of the inter premiership loans were about cost cutting (Leeds) but as a rule I think ll cluds will pay squat for their loan players, as iaj says everyone wins regardless of wages.
