Feedback on the Football Manager 2005 Beta Demo & LLM.
LLM fanatics; I'm looking for feedback with regards to the FM 2005 Beta Demo and Lower League Management.
I would like direct problems discovered in the FM 2005 Beta Demo to be reported here; these would be specific issues that affect your enjoyment of LLM, be it a game play problem or an annoyance with the interface that slows you down.
There are a couple of guidelines I'd like you to follow which will enable me to manage this post more effectively.
<LI>One post per problem discovered (a post being a reply in this thread).
<LI>Only report issues discovered in the FM 2005 Beta Demo.
Note: The 2D Match Engine has been improved and refined a fair amount since the Beta Demo code was made available.
I'm sorry about the postboosting lads, but he said only one issue in each post *shrugs*.
2nd issue: I don't know if that will be solved and I really don't have a way to know in the BETA, but there's an issue with basque regens in previous games and I would like it to be sorted out.
All regens generated in the basque country should be given basque nationality as their second nationality and not only the ones that pop out in basque only teams (perhaps birth places could be regionalised in Spain, this would also solve silly issues as players who are given basque nationality having Catalan or Spanish names and basque players could also pop at other teams in that way).
I can elaborate in an e-mail if you feel this is relevant.

I also have a scouting issue. I sent my one and only scout to scout the Conference North. 3 months later, he had found precisely zero players. No information at all from him in fact, even when clicking directly on his scouting screen.
This glitch will seriously impact on LLM style games.

I've heard there's also an issue with starting unemployed as got don't get the confirm option when you're offered a job, you simply get it... But I supose that's a known bug by now and hopefully solved.
I haven't said in my previous posts that I love the new game and that I find the speed is good for me (considering it's 7 Divisions at full detail)

I guess the thing that bothers me the most from an LLM standpoint is that most of the rosters in the Conference North & South don't even have enough players to field a team of 11 players. Also the stats seem to be a bit of a mess.
I expect this to have been fixed by the gold demo though

I'm not completely sure about the average attendance in the Conf North/South but I'm having an attendance of average about 1700 at the moment what might be a bit high.
On the other hand played a pre-season friendly against local rivals Dover Athletic (playing as Margate FC) where just a lousy 64 people showed up.

While not strictly speaking a B56 question - only one season so it hasn't come up, has the problem of the AI offering players in your Team when you're purposefully trying to let them get to the end so you can boot their arse out the door?
...and more important, guys who aren't even close to the end of their contract being offered new contracts with absolutely stupid minimum release clauses that we'd never offer ourselves.
BIG problem in LLM, Neil.

Early thoughts based on my limited play thus far (just preseason).
I like the Job Centre, but playing as York, having put out an ad for a new scout did not get much of a response. Running it a second time did see 15 applicants. Two problems here:
1. All of them are currently employed. I can't afford to waste all of my transfer budget on a scout! Where are all the unemployed applicants? Does everyone in FM-world already have a job? What happens if I have no cash - am I doomed to never aquiring a scout because there are no unemployed ones?
2. I had to go through those applicants one-by-one. I'd like a "shortlist" of the applicants so we can see their attributes and sort them.

1. If this is the full database in the gold demo, then we need a lot more players adding and quickly. My Stafford Rangers side started with eleven players and I've found the season an immense struggle because of this. Most Conference North & South teams have a very small (some less than eleven!) squad to begin with. This is a major issue if this is the full database we've been told it is.
Additionally, there are very few players in squads below the Conference North & South.
2. The mentioned scouting where very few free young players are found. My scout has turned up two by the middle of October.
3. The manager's wage is very high. Most Conference teams have their manager earning £1000 per week in the game, which wouldn't happen in real life.
4. Attendances for me at Stafford are too high. My first two games got over 1100, roughly average their real life average.
5. All players with a calf or groin problem are recommended to see a specialist. To experiment this, I ran a game with Newcastle United, doing very little in the actual game. The same happens there, so it's not just a LLM issue.
6. The Job Centre is excellent. My ad for a coach garnered a poor response initially, and after a second week there were some unemployed coaches in the applicant list.
7. One thing not on the beta demo but is going to be important... a posted it in a different forum... what teams are going to be promoted to Conference North & South? Is it going to be the same few as in 03/04 (very bad) or the variation of a large pool like in 01/02 (very good)?
That's all for now. The potential is there for an excellent game.
