OK, a bit of a longer flashback, then.
Unterhaching is in the south of Munich. One club in Munich is world class (I admit grudgingly), and another one isn't half bad either, even though they have been relegated to the second division IRL this year.
Even though Munich should be a good area to catch spectators, the competition is almost overwhelming. Any player who is any good in Bavaria will be usurped by Bayern, what's left is prey for 1860. IRL, Spvgg (short for Sportvereinigung (= sports club)) Unterhaching will find it well neigh impossible to achieve anything.
But in the world of CM, anything is possible, even a 37-year old Dutchman with no RL football experience taking over a top semi-pro club.
The board and fans expected me to win the league, nothing less  As I usually need many years to build a competitive team, I expected nothing much.
Determining the tactics is the first thing I did after taking a look at the players I have, some of which look quite good, actually. My Czech MC of 21 is clearly a youngster of huge talents, with many written in double digits. Feck knows how the previous manager managed to land him, but I thank him

Alledgedly my star players are a DMC of 33, the goalie and some MR of 24.
Next move: apart from quite a large first team, I had about 25 players in the second team and youth team. All but three were not worth keeping, IMHO, so I put them all on the transfer list. We must have a good rap as youngster-builders, because I sold about 15 for a few candy-wrappers and a can of coke (but always with a sell-on clause. I'm Dutch, I'm greedy. 'nough said

), I only had to sack five, after being able to give away another few.
So much for losing money: I was spending well below the allowed amount on wages after that.
Also a few first-teamers got put on the list, for reasons of too many competition for their places and all but one got sold, this time for a total of 80k.
I sent out my scouts to bordering countries.
The season started with a few more wins than losses and a few draws. By Christmas, we were sitting in mid-table mediocrity. Despite their expectations, the board and fans remained quiet.
In January, my scouting activities payed off and the earned money was spent on two Dutch ex-internationals (one GK/Assman, 38 and one AM/FL, 32), one of whom played in Germany for awhile already, and on one Austrian ex-international, 32.
Luckily for my carreer, they made the difference. The SC I already started with kept receiving easy chances from Austrian, who in turn got his passes in easy because of the work of Dutch AM/FL, who also scored quite easily, should my SC be absent for whatever reason. The GK is still solid as a rock and we rocketed to third place in no time at all. Alas, the sprint was started too late and we missed promotion because we lost the last two games of the season.
The board were satisfied, the fans quite happy, even though I did not meet their high expectations.
The in-between season earned me some cash: Liverpool and Galasataray challenged us to friendlies on our ground. Guess they wanted to win in Munich for a change
Signed a couple of young Danish players, who were found by my scout in Germany .
The money I had, was all spent on one guy: the Iranian (!) AMC that had set our division on fire the previous season. To my amazement, the freshly promoted ex-competitors let him go and to my even bigger amazement yer man gladly signed a very decent contract.
This season, we can't go wrong. Even though Dutch AM/FL, 33 now, is clearly past it and Dutch GK, 39 now, is only able to play two out of three matches on average (he spends a lot of time assisting me, guess he has no time to train

), my new AMC gets good balls from Czech MC, then continues by dribbling around all defenders, either scoring himself (his PR is now on outdribbling four defenders and the goalie, earning him a 'world class goal!' in the commentary) or leaving impossible to miss chances for my Austrian SC and German/Italian other SC. We lead the league, we lead the number of goals scored, in short, we own the division.
Our closest rivals are not too far behind, but they just sold their ace to high-aspiring St Pauli in the northern counterpart of our division, so the three points I have on them will likely become more. Number three, the amateurs of Dortmund, are twelve points behind us. With two promotion spots available and two thirds of the season already behind us, this can hardly go wrong. Even though we lost the last two matches. Bit of bad luck: in the last one we got a penalty against, with red card to boot, in the twelfth minute. Oh well, sh*t happens.
In the winter break I also managed to sign an unknown (to me at least) AJAX reject/youngster who does very well as a replacement AMC, whenever my Iranian star is playing for his national team.
In the first year, by the way, we lost in the first round of the German cup, in the second year we lost to Dortmund in the second round. Not the amateurs, this time, but the A team. Demolished, at home, 1-7, even whilst playing ultra-defensive. That serves as a small reminder of what is to come in the coming years, I suppose.
Nonetheless: Bayern, here we come! Unterhaching will be
the team in Munich!!
