OK, just raising a small point about 'LLM' ethics.
If you start a game in Conference North or South and the club does not have any scouts. Its realistic to assume it because they cannot afford scouts. Therefore, do you abide by the realism that the club should not have scouts. In which case how do you find players?
But, redbridgefc sure told us one of their coaches was chief scout (so there were more than 2 scouts I supose) and in the demo I can only see one scout for them.
I supose that has a lot to do with part-time scouts not being into the game...
Who's to say they can't afford one? It could be down to the research or other factors.
I think once you take over a club, if the board gives you money to offer a contract to a scout, then why not? Especially with the ability to post jobs in the Job Centre. One might suggest that posting for jobs is the new way to get around the "how do I scout for staff" questions. Perhaps no more filtering for the best scouting attributes.
I think its probably down to research of the north/south conference divisions. Most clubs i guess would use a coach as a scout, as they get two in one and would only have to pay for one wage.
So in FM terms i think it should be fine to appoint a scout as a coach can't find new players.
Perhaps if this is correct and a coach also works as a scout then this could be in the next version of FM, sure would add to realism and cut wage bills
I've often done my own scouting as manager. When I've managed clubs who no staff are interested in joining, I've watched local matches from time to time, and this uncovered players hidden stats. I found it a perfectly realistic way of scouting.
Not something I'd overdo, but just three or four times a season if I needed to.
That's the beauty of the "Job Centre" in FM2005, (That's "Job Center", Devon ), in that you can start off scoutless, advertise for one and sign him as and when he appears.
If it takes a while I'd arrange friendlies and "self-scout" the Teams we play against.
I like the job centre, it takes the random sorting out of finding staff. If you have the budget, can place an ad, and someone applies then I think it is fair game to sign him.
Watching teams "live" is a good way to start until you get a scout.

Just this once though...then I'm back to proper spelling.
