I have only done this once, as I could see no obvious effect beyond said player taking up that role when they retire. But how are you supposed to know which role is suited to each player, are you just supposed to suggest the role they are interested and this makes them happy or what?

On some occasions it will say whether he wants to coach or manage. If not, I suppose just do whatever you fancy Can't hurt anyone.

His personal screen will indicate whether he is interested in coaching, management etc.

Dunno if it makes a difference but I always go by that and recommend an over-30 player, just in case it influences his morale or makes him like me more.

Quite possibly, if he's announced his retirement also, he might be influenced to stay on as coach. Haven't experienced that yet myself.

I don't think suggesting actually does anything. Every player I've tried it with just says they want to concentrate on playing. The only way to really find out if they will actually take up a staff role is when they retire, or become available for a player/staff role.

I had an older player who planned to retire at the end of the season and his personal screen said he fancied a go at management.

So I did a player interaction where I said that I thought he had the mental strength to be a manager (or something similar) and bang went his morale as he thought I was trying to get rid of him - what !!
