Help!
I'm trying to get my team Bristol City out of League One but am failing miserably, to the point where I'm going to get sacked. For those that don't know, they have some really decent players and are among the bookies favourites to go up. However, my strikers, Jevons and Brooker, who are no worse than other players in that league couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo, meanwhile, if I had a pound for every time a "poor defensive clearance" cost me a goal, I would be a millionaire. I've tried various passing styles, tempos and closing down all over the pitch but have only won one away game out of 17. My home form is so inconsistent even I don't know what level of performance I'm going to see my players put in. Do I need to have my central defenders man-marking? Am I better off going for a direct style of play? Any pointers on how I can get out of the lower leagues would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

First of all...well done to HectorSpector for the smart comment of the day award
I always find that the less goals you conceed the more chance you have of winning. I would suggest playing a very defensive formation with an attacking mentality. In my Liverpool game (i know liverpool have a lot more class than Bristol) I play with a flat back 4, two DM's, an MC just in front of them, two wingers (AML and AMR), and one striker. The MC and wingers should have forward arrows. This formation conceeds very few goals and scores a lot to. I hope this made sense....if not, just tell me which part and il try explain better

Your not the only one, I know exactly how you feel, replace the word Bristol with Cardiff and that's my story, I just started my 4rth season now and I have a decent team but I cant win games at all, I've tried 442, diamond, 4132 and more. my team just keeps getting worse.
does anyone know why eveytime the opposition get an oppertunity it seems to be clear cut, how can I stop this?

Thanks for the tip on Spit Fiyah v3.3, partickthistlenil. I'll let you know how I get on. I've read through the comments on this and it sounds like a winner.

I won the league with West Brom using a 442 diamond. seems to work quite well in the Championship. Also try barrows on your fullbacks and tight marking and tight man marking on your centre backs. Also set closing down to 20 for wingers and forwards with easy tackling. they close everything down and don't give fouls away. Defending from the front is the key!
Hope this helps.
oh and i find fast direct style works better in lower leagues with a target man and fast striker.

| Well I play short passing with a quick tempo but use whatever suits you. Just make sure to play your defenders and DM's with very defensive mentality and yor wingers, striker and MC with very attacking mentalitys
