I've always wondered if I should assign training more in order to gain new skills for the player or to keep the skills he has already gained.

Which do you think it is and how do you balance it?

We are told about the main attributes applicable to each position so I design my training to concentrate on those specifically. So maintaining rather than gaining skills.

For players under 24 its about improving them as players, so the younger they are the better chance of shaping them into the player you need.

For players over 24 its about maintaining the stats they already got.
