After taking Torquay from the Blue Square to Premiership i decided it was time to take on a big team for a change so after all those years of struggle i thought i'd earned a Chelsea career. But anyhoo to cut a long story short i have been using this tactic for 2 seasons (replaced in the post-Xmas slump for something slightly different) and won me nearly everything.
But the strange thing about this is only 3 of the attacking players seem to do anything ! My AML was top assist, my AMC was top scorer and the AML/SC a little behind. I've never been too good with really big clubs, i'm the build from the bottom type of manager so winning everything all out in the first season makes this well worth a look.
The Setup
Well it's a 4-5-1 with a very attack minded midfield. Nothing too out of sorts with todays world then.
Your "magic 3" in this formation are your AML, the AMC and the SC. For Chelsea i used Malouda all season (top assists, EPL 3rd top goalscorer) with Shevchenko as AMC (top goalscorer) and Drogba replaced by Martins 10 games or so in as my SC. I shall explain the player choices later.
Team Instructions
From my experience with Torquay i have never done well with 2 strikers in this game, and i'm sure i'm not the first. With Drogba in my squad i thought perfect to use a 1 big-guy-up-front tactic. My defence wasn't lightning pacey with Terry & Kompany but was big so i play a deep defensive line. This is very good against teams like Man Utd & Arsenal who's strikers generally get in behind you. With this you can use the direct and fast style to get the ball quickly up the striker. I didn't use holdup ball as i want the striker to flick on for the AML & AMC.
The SC
It is ideal to have a target man who is also going to have some mobility about himself. It is also important that they are creative as they will be your supply line. Obafemi Martins worked well for me in this area. IF you have a giant like Zigic or Crouch then simply change target supply to his head. It does cut off the through ball option which the likes of Martins still has but it will still work well.
The AMC
Bangs them in. Used Shevchenko first season and Lampard the 2nd, both got above 30 goals. The abilities of the player in this position should dictate what they do but forward runs and very attacking are essential.
The AML
This one is the surprise package. The way this player is setup just seems perfect for getting in behind the striker and also perfect for those long diagonal balls your full backs/midfielders love to play now and then.
Final Notes
Well i won the EPL and Champions League as shown here.
Like i said before i'm not a master tactician by any stretch of the mind so to be honest i'm not posting this as a "come find the solution to all your woes" tactic but as a challenge for someone who does know what they are doing to see if a) it really is a good formation and b) can they make it work better with some player tactic tweaks etc.
If you are a LLM then this tactic is a must ! Loan Mikaelson from Aston Villa and use him as your SC
See, I would have guessed that on your team instructions you will have "Wide" and focus passing "down both flanks". But its just the opposite.
I will give it a try later.
The link to the tactic appears not to be working. I'd like to test the tactic though, looks interesting enough, if not necessarily the type of football i'd ideally want my team to play.
Sorry guys, this one is without the patch i've just found out but give it a try on 8.0.1 and let me know, i've just patched up (not been on forum's for a while to notice the upgrade).
@Ricky - I did try this a few times but just didn't seem to work as well as playing down the middle. Have a go to see if you can get it working !
