Season 10/11
A strange year. First up, the stadium expansion was cancelled. Apparently the local councillors have nothing better to do than interfere with their local sporting icons.
I initially thought that as per real life SPL rules, my promotion would be screwed by the small capacity I was left with.
But no. The new season rolled around, and East Stirling were an SPL club. A good thing you say? I wish!
First up, virtually the entire squad got stroppy because their pay was so crappy compared to everyone else in the division. Fair enough point, except I didn't have the wage budget to meet any of their demands. This due to the lack of gate receipts.
Then the oh so kind fixture list presented us with Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Rangers for the first 4 games. So 4 games in and it's played 4 lost 4. Goals for 1, Against 15
I can only think my heroic efforts and loyalty over the previous years counted for something, because the board, bless 'em, announced to the world how I had their total confidence.
I survived another 7 matches after that, winning 2, and drawing 1. Still, it wasn't the 7 points from 33 that was the problem. it was my foolish idea to demand a higher wage budget that did for me. The ungrateful poofs told me to clear my desk the very next day. (I had kinda expected that message about don't be a silly boy making demands, and we'll overlook this one)
And thus ends another East Stirling career. At least I got 'em to the top division. It will also be my last CM 03/04 game I suspect.
FM2005 and the joys of the Conference South await.
