Since they're currently bottom of the Conference/Nationwide North at the moment it seemed appropriate to take the reins at Bradford Park Avenue for my first FM LLM experience.
They really are the biz. You start with a squad of a dozen muppets including no goalies and many other holes. But I couldn't get so much as a tea lady to sign for me; I even ended up promoting a scout to AssMan! I cobbled together a starting X1 with the help of 8 loanees but 4 of them (including both goalkeepers) have gone back home now and I'm stuffed! In three months my two scouts found three players none of whom wanted to come.
Even paying the loanees nothing and the rest in peanuts the board are on my back to bring down the wage bill.
Now that's what I call a LLM challenge. I'm loving' it!!
I started off doing well, in the play-off spots for the first dozen games but then some of my loanees went home and I plummetted. Fortunately the forwards of the other teams in the same league are hilariously poor.
I finally recruited some half-decent players who actually signed contracts, just in time for the Christmas rush. Realistically, all bar one of my 6 freebie signings came from clubs in the vicinity of Bradford.
My best two signings were both DMCs so I altered my 442 tactic to cater for both but it hasn't worked.
But I now have a serious problem; okay I have a big enough squad to cover most positions but now the wages are 75% over budget and the losses are mounting.
I have no chance of winning the division but I could still squeeze into a play-off position. I'll deffo be keeping this as a savegame when the biggie comes out.
Well I reached the end of my six months - gutted to have to pause for the full version to reach me here in Thailand.
The squad had really begun to gel and I was on a nine-game unbeaten streak, sneaking into a play-off spot. The last three games were interesting; first a nine-goal thriller, then in the penultimate one I conceded a hat-trick of penalties (drew 3-3) and in the last one the oppo goalie scored a screecher of a free kick - watch out for him.
I've got this complete loony forward on a year's loan - he never ever ever passes! He goes on 15-20 mazy runs per game and waste 14-19 of them but he's sure to score once so I have to persist with him and hope my defence lock up.
I'm all hollow now - don't really want to start another game 'cos it'll dilute/distract from the BPA experience; I want this one to run and run. I thoroughly recommend them to you.
BPA seem like a real challange. Sounds too tough for me. I may play Cefn Druids or some other teams until i get a feel for the game and then try BPA. Good on you for doing it the hard way. Well done.
