After my first full season of LLM with Bishop's Stortford (read my other thread), I finshed mid table in the first year when relegation was a real posibility. My board and supporters were happy with the league finish and i was getting ready for pre-season.
Cambridge united of League 2 (not really Lower League) have offered me the job as manager.
What would other LLM do in such a position? What are (if any) the rules on such offers? Has anyone recieved such offers, and if so what did you do?
Personally, I only accept a job in the same division or lower than I am currently in or in some cicumstances if I am at the top of a division and the job offer is from a stuggling team in the division above.
I like to move about club to club during a game. As i tend to get a bit bored after four or five seasons with the same club.
From what ive read so far in other threads. It is going ot be increasingly difficult to bring your conference north or south club right to the top of english football. Because your club simply cant pay the wages that are required for league one & two.
And also your clubs reputation will make it harder for you to sign players.
Meaning you will almost certainly have to move clubs after bringing success to a small club.
For me this is spot on, after working on a shoestring budget and performing miracles for your club. Its only right that a larger club should be chasing your signature.
Again im all for this as hornchurch shouldnt be in the premier league and losing to real madrid on penalties in the european cup final after seven seasons!!
That was my opinion on it too. I must admit, i didnt feel i achieved much in terms of "success" as stortford, except a brief, yet somewhat lucrative FA Cup 1st round proper defeat to Luton. League position was better than expected but not fantastic.
however, i am glad for the fact that league teams look lower down the leagues for managers, rather than old pro's taking thier first steps into management (ie Tony Adams at Wycombe) like IRL.
Um...the same guidelines in the header apply even once you've made it to a bigger club.
For example you don't all of a sudden use the player search because you're at abigger club and such. Stick to the same moral guidelines and ideologies.
I started FM by taking on Redbridge in the Conference South. The board wanted mid table obsurity, and I gave them mid table obscurity. However, I think the board were being very ambitious given the team and finances I started the season with.
Towards the end of my first season in charge, I started getting job offers from a number of League Two / Conference sides. I didn't view this as being unrealistic as I figured my ability to put a decent team together through a beg/borrow/steal type approach would be in demand in the football league. I eventually took over at Manfield Town.
If you feel you've earned the job offer, then take it. I have no problem moving clubs, as I generally play careerist style games, and after I've met whatever goals I set for myself on taking a club, I'm inclined to look for greener pastures.
It's not entirely unrealistic for a club to offer a job to someone not entirely qualified, but that doesn't mean you have to compound the disaster by taking it.
