Finished first season at Bishop's Stortford, finished 3rd after a 10 match unbeaten run at the end of the season (9 wins 1 draw), however when I needed a win most I lost badly at home 3-0 in the play-offs and drew 2-2 away

Not had a perfect start to the 2nd season but at least the board / fans are still only expecting a mid-table finish so I have some more time to work with

I think and am sure you can take a lower league side all the way to the top.. but ya gotta take your time with it.. in 03-04 I managed to take Barnet from the Conference to the Premiersship in 4 seasons... A bit easy but took a slapping or 7 once we got there... I think if ya wanna do that with FM, you gotta make sure you keep everything under control and stick with it... Up to you if ya wanna move on to bigger things but I think I'm gonna go for the Dario Gradi approach... Just started playing with my local team Stevenage and all is not that rosey and my best player (stats-wise) wants out... and thats after 5 league games! Oh well... I like a challenge..

Is it me or do most teams start over budget??? And ain't it a b***h trying to get it down?? I'm still about 3K over at the mo... My player would only knock 500 quid off the wage bill but it all counts... However on reading the posts.. it may be down to a bug... I told him he was an important player but her still wanted "clarification on his future"... If he ain't careful, his future is gonna be at the nearest Tesco...

I never had this problem…..as there wasn’t a budget! Stortford start with no transfer money to speak of and a wage bill only a few hundred over the ideal. A few dead wood players removed, and the signing of some freebies who overall were better for half the wage cost, reduced the bill greatly.

From this thread (and the other one I started) I took the Cambridge job, to realize league football is not so different.

Cambridge are skint. Simple. There is 2k for players (what can you get for 2k that’s worth it?) and an overall wage bill that is £19,000 OVER budget!! The squad is weak in all areas, with very back up for the first team apart from kids (who statistically wouldn’t make the bench at my Stortford team). So I cant remove any of the first team as it will mean using kids. Looks like im shopping for freebies and Loanies for the season.

It is more of a challenge than conference south!!

Better when they were Purfleet

I hadn't realised they were til Sunday. Bought back memories of the "last ever" match at Chelmsford's New Writtle Street ground when they played Purfleet. "Last ever" cos they stayed for another season and a half!
I plumped for Grays Ath., poor start then dragged them up to 17th in Conf South before being offered Barnet job. Have a soft spot for Barnet so accepted straight away, then realised they were top of Conf Nat and loaded. Grays got relegated, I got Barnet half-way down the table inside 3 games, and 10 games into 05/06 am waiting til a local club (hopefully a promoted Chelmsford, Heybridge or Braintree) has a vacancy so i can go back down a league and do it properly.

Another Bishop's Stortford update!

Trundled along in mid table messing about with tactics and loanees and so on (only brought in one permanent player all season, a veteran forward).

However, due to a good late run, chiefly down my unearthing a star of an AMC, who managed to get 30 goals in the season from midfield! i managed to sneak into 5th place, the highest i'd been all season.

I think if i'd been able to get anybody else who could get into double figures i'd have run away with the league, oh well, i guess thats for next year as Hornchurch thumped us in the playoff semi, so it's another year in the conference south.

Incidentally, i also got offered 3 league 2 jobs during the second part of the season whilst i was upper-mid table, which seems mightily generous, but i don't really plan on leaving unless i'm in danger of the sack!

hmmm, I'm not that good

Second season Bishop's Stortford, a fighting 12th positiom, much worse than the 3rd I attained in season 1

However when I saw that Braintree had come into the Conference South in the third season, I jumped at the opportunity to move to them, ....

Braintree promoted? cool. I've been wanting to play as my local side for ages but they were never promoted on previous CMs.

But now that i know they can be promoted, it'll be all the more frustrating that they won't be in any of my games!
