Default Opinions/Advice Please...

I took over as Welling in the Conference South (FM07) and noticed that a lot of the young players 16-19 were actually better players than the 30-35 year olds they were currently playing.

So I chucked them in at the deep end meaning my right back and a centre back were 16, one of my midfielders and one of my forwards were 18.

I promoted most of the youth team (the decent ones anyway) to the reserves for development.

First season we sneaked the playoffs and lost at Wembley and this season we've struggled and are 14th, 10pts off the playoffs with 8 games to go.

This season more of the young 'uns from the reserves have come into the first team squad but now I'm worried that I've relied too heavily on youth?

Has anyone else dismantled an aging side and chucked in the 16/17 year olds?

Just wondering what people think - should I bring in some more experience or keep signing young players (under 22) and promoting the youth players?

If they're good enough, they're old enough.

I would get a couple of older players to steady things a little. One of which you should choose as captain.

Without knowing your squad I would go for a GK, a DC, an MC and an ST all 26 or above.

I think that at the lower end of the leagues, you can blood the youngsters earlier and in greater numbers- I would also keep some older experienced players in the team as well. however.

Always keep some experience, it helps the younger players 'get over the line' if you like.
