This problem only happens with Football Manager and the temps are fine i have already checked this.

I have exactly the same spec laptop (ageing a bit!) and feel that FM08 is a bit slower than 07. It seems to hang a lot more between screens etc.
I have the player/background graphics turned off and assumed it was just because my computer was getting a bit old. Still runs though so your prob is probably different.

I have only 256MB but mine runs ok, only English league and small database selected though
