Last night I started a game as Leeds on Football Manager 2008. I've got the 8.0.1 update and I am playing with a large database.
I got to just after the transfer window had closed (about 7th September) and the game crashed. I thought it was a one off and switched the computer off and went to bed.
This morning I have come back on and it has done the exact same thing. With this screen.
When I go to the specified folder there is nothing there from last night or this morning?!
Anybody any idea?

i assume you have your game cracked? remove the crack and it should be fine.

Have you updated to 8.0.2? I saw some of these crashes pre-patch but after updating, I've never seen any again.

This looks like a corrupt save file. These are caused by something happening outside of the game on your computer. There are many reasons these can happen, one known one is to have a virus scan running while playing FM.
Because the save itself is corrupted every time it gets to that point in the game it will crash. The only option is to start again, unless you use the 3 file rolling auto-save (a very wise thing to do) in which case you can go back and use one of those saves. You'll have lost some game time but not the whole game.

is it proven that having something like AVG running while playing FM can cause this.
I was under the impression this had been sorted.

i had the exact same thing happen to me a legit copy of Fm aswel but i just restarted it and it worked perfectly fine after that
