I know this was mentioned and its a cracking touch in my opinion. But because im crap and have only ever had one job, im wondering does this actually work?

When you go to another club do you get the chance to take all your staff with you?

You don't get the chance to take them with you, but 2 or 3 might resign when you resign/get sacked making them available for free.
Give your decent coaches/assman nicknames so you can spot them easily when looking for staff at your new club.

ya this happened to me in my last save. I was a successful manager at Manchester city and decided to move on, 3 of the coaches left with me!

By "left with you", you mean they resigned when you decided to move on and then you offered them contracts at your newly found club, right?

They resign and a media item comes saying they have indicated that they would like to join up if so and so decides to take up another job in future, or something to the same effect

if you have a staff with you for sometime...he will have you as his favorite personnel...when you leave a club he will almost always resign along with you...and he would prefer joining you again

Happened to me when I left Bayern Munich for Argentina but the only coaches that left with me were ones I had signed the ones who were there before I arrived stayed.

Agree with everyone it's a really good touch.

Liverpool did not renew my contract (boo hoo) and five of the staff left incluiding Pako, who I'd re-hired, moved to Valencia and was able to sign most of them for them, so you can in a way take the staff with you. Additionally, offer the ones that did not leave contracts for your new club!. The ones that leave tend to have you as one of their favoured personnel btw!

This also happens with players, you leave and out of nowhere they start wanting to leave. I moved from Rangers to Juventus after 7 glorious years, and three days after I had left 4 or 5 of the top players had handed in transfer requests!! They all had me as a favoured personnel btw.
