Not really, it would be very easy to tear such defense apart. A solid back four implies that everybody controls his zone (player if on man marking), knows his move on "what if" basis. Now, of course football is not chess, so there is no way you can predict every possible situation. So players should understand each other very well, anticipate situation, GK should organise defense, etc. Any attempt to "fix" players' position relatively to others (i.e. keep line or keep distanse between paleyers etc.) will lead to failure.
