First off, let me apologize if my initial thread is not how it should be, I read the sticky and am trying to follow it as best I can, but I have been a "couch member" for a long time now.
I have created a tactic that has been successful in winning with style and substance. It is a 4-3-2-1 attacking formation, with a huge emphasis on creativity and speed. I wanted to recreate the tactics Manchester United use in real life. So I built the team around a solid 4-man defense and one defensive midfielder. The remaining players are giving license to wreak havoc on the opposition defence with clever forwards runs and much movement off the ball.
I currently employ just one tactic for both home and away, although I occasionally tick the counter-attack box if I am playing a tougher team away from home.
I am extremely open to constructive criticism, as I want to make this a thread dedicated to helping each other out to make this fantastic play style a success in Football Manager. Please leave all feedback here, and we will try to improve this tactic.
United play a pretty loose variant of 4-4-2 in real life. If you watch them play, the intelligent runs of the attacking players warps away from a 4-4-2 and more of a 4-3-3 formation.
@crazy
I put time-wasting high so I can keep the ball better, I have experimented with this, and it seems to be better overall with a higher setting. United in real life do not play at a frenetic pace for all 90 minutes, there is a build-up to most attacks, aside from counter attacking.
Uniteds formation (particularly at home) is very flexible. Essentially I would say it's 4-2-4 with the more attacking CM (Scholes or Anderson) really pushing up.
I'm not sure it's limited to that, because if you remember, all last season, carrick and scholes were the central midfield pairing, and both rotated in dropping back to pick up the ball.
