It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Excellent tactic, hard to break down

I have tried many tactics on these forums all with moderate success but it was by merging a few of the ideas I saw out there that I came up with the following tactic.

It really has proved to be excellent for me. I am playing with the patch before youask, so no concerns there.

It is a basic 4-4-2 model but has both central midfielders lying in holding positions with one breaking forward to support the strikers. I have found that by having them both lie so deep makes my team extremely hard to break down for the opposition and almost always gives me authority in the middle of the park. I had very few spectacular results but won virtually ever single game 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0. In the league I went unbeaten all season until the final match when i had a few injuried and lost away to Chelsea. My overall record for that first season was played 38, won 31, drawn 6 and lost 1. Total points 99...!!! I scored 90 goals in the league and conceded only 14. My biggest win being 5-0 vs. Villa.

I shamefully got kncoked out of the FA cup in the third round by someone really crap, which didn't please the board ( i had a reserve team out) but I won the European cup. This was no cake walk as I narrowly sqeaked past Inter in the quarters, Real Madrid in the semi's and needed two goals in the last five minutes to beat lyon 4-3 in the final. The first time i had conceded so many times in one game.

I have found in this system that the central midfielders get extremely tired and also are prone to getting not such good ratings, but the results keep coming so I never changed it.

In the second season now and trying some new formations. Still unbeaten but not as tight as the year before. Now I must confess that I am Man Utd, which tends to make things a little easier. Nonetheless it is an impressive record. Hargreaves and Anderson were my central midfielders of choice but sometimes Anderson struggled in the holding role, so i would swap him in and out with carrick. I am going to try and upload it now and post it below.

Another case of a tactic working for a super team.

Does it work for a team like Wigan?
