macca the idea of having to use 3 or 4 tactics in a game is just ridiculous and inrealistic.
I mean IRL managers cannot change that much once a game has started, yes they can change the odd thing but in general the players then need to just get on with it.
Players and teams react automatically to situations IRL they don't need a manager constantly changing tactics controlling them like robots if the opposition change tactics etc.
Even more ridiculous is that we have to try and work out what the computer teams are doing based on key highlights? I mean come on its just silly that. And for the people that say watch some full games etc, not everyone has that kind of time or like myself I play in a network game with several people. Its just not possible.

paulowen...you have written exactly what I wanted to write. I come home from work and get more frustrated night by night. I don't expect to win every game. but I don't expect to have a team rock bottom come to my ground have 30 shots and win 4-0. the amount of games where the opo have 30+ shots is just stupid (no matter what tactic I use)
arhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

This game quite simply needs a difficulty setting.
Easy = AI takes a long time to learn tactics, players train quicker, slightly less injuries, highly quality players through training academy, you start with a higher reputation as a manager, easy to get another job when sacked
Medium = AI takes longer to adjust to your tactics etc etc.
Hard = The game as it is now
Loads more to add to the difficult ratings in terms of what is on what level, but you get the picture.

The game simply needs to be more realistic. Anyone here who actually mentions having to switch between 3 or 4 tactics during a game just highlights the obsurdity of the game I mean actually think about it. Managers IRL don't do this nor can they do this, there is only so much a manager can change once a match has started.
This idea of oh the games fine, realistic etc you've just got to be able to learn to switch between different tactics etc, its just a nonsense. Football is not that complicated as FM are trying there upmost to make it.

Ive actually just signed up to take my FA coaching badges just to play this game
Seriously I can see both sides points. Im a big fanboy, love the whole series and am dissapointed with this latest version. Yes it has better options, the tactical side is more advanced and takes a lot more thought/changing. Due to this it is more challenging and have one bad season and you're looking for a new club!
But on the other hand, i agree with the original poster. I work all day, pretty shagged out at night and just fancy a couple of hours relaxing without putting too much thought in tactics etc and take the mighty Saints as high as I can.
There needs to be a balance between the two I feel and im not sure a patch will be able to do this.

An interesting if not a little extreme posting here. I agree and disagree with parts, as such.
There are too few decisions left to individual players at times, yes, tactics are vitally important for the smaller clubs, who's players are not as skilled as the stars. For example, Arsene Wenger could just pick 11 players for a game from his arsenal team, give them no instructions pre game or anything and 9/10 they'll go win said game.
On the flip side, in this other 1/10 game, Arsene would switch his individual player tactics around to suit the opposition.
However, in FM, there is less onus on a players attributes/CA or PA than should be. For example, goalkeepers. Get FMM2.2 to edit in game stats, for 1 game, make the GK 3ft tall, he'll still have the same blinding game, pulling off great saves time after time, change his stats to 12CA and 12PA, reduce his in game values for a GK to 2-3 each and the same will happen, showing that player attributes do not factor as much as they should.
It is not wholly SI's fault, if it were completely attribute based, everyone would just buy the same 11 players each time and rout everything. There is call for a better balance, one that takes into consideration that a 5ft 9" centerhalf will not beat a 6ft4" striker to the ball every time etc, but to say the game is unplayable is laughable.

Implementing something like this would kill the series IMHO - it's entirely what the console games excell at and should be left there.

Don't get me wrong im not suggesting this game should be as easy as just getting good players and winning every game. I don't mind spending some time experimenting with tactics until I get it right but it's just the need to be constantly changing things to suit the opposition, it's too extreme.
Inparticular when you are a good team, the opposition should be worrying about you not vice-versa.
Also the whole thing is not helped by the very complicated slider system with so many variables where you can go wrong and with very little documentation in the manual either.
Like I said I don't mind spending time getting to get the tactics side of things right and then the odd match tweaking the shape of the side abit in certain games etc which would be more realisitc. But the need for constant change in mentality, passing, tempo, EVERYTHING is just tedious, unenjoyable and most of all UNREALISTIC.
