Hallo everyone, I do believe that this is my first post in the LLM-forums, but I read them weekly. So I'm semi-knowledgeble about what goes and what doesn't goes. Still there is this one thing I've been thinking about during my last game.
Player search is a nono for me, but what if a 'famous' player is uncontracted, and I know this for a fact. Is it acceptable to approach him anyways? Because even though the scouts haven't recommended him or anything like that, it is possible that any manager in rl knows about this player. My explanation ...sucks, so lemme give you a useless example.
Gappy Tooth gets free transfered, this gets into all the papers and manager for lower brazilian club x wants to gamble on him taking a step back in his career to spend more time with his family, so he approaches him with a contract. Even though the scouts of the club never recommended him.
Anywho, would this be acceptable or within the rules of LLM?

How would you know the said player is uncontracted?
I think IRL unless he was at a major club irl you wouldn;t be able to find out. The people who will tell you would be your scouts who have unearthed this knowledge, so that's the way to go for me.
Remember, these are guidelines. LLM is about how realistic you think this would be.

More what I meant (as I said, crap explanation) any manager in the world today, regardless of level could and would get information from other sources than just his scouts. Papers, the internet, mouth-to-mouth (aspeciallt this in lower leagues). I know for a fact that alot of the signings made for my old local team in the division 3 here in sweden made two of their signings just by using information retrieved for the internet. Then they phoned the players in question and voìla.
I'm not saying this reallt should affect the way I (or you) play LLM, I just felt that the rules are somewhat hazy or even lacking in this area.

If the "You find ... player X using the internet" message pops up, you can then sign that player in question, if you want. That's realistic and within ethics.

The question is somewhat irrelevant, as FM no longer has famous ex-players finishing their careers for £150 in non-league. They now retire very quickly and lose their millions in clubs rather than pubs.
In my 9th season, we've never signed a veteran from the top 2 divisions. The lure of the beach is clearly too much compared to the joy of LL stadia!

I would find it hard pressed to ignore a 'current' international who is uncontracted. (an Irishman played a world cup without a club in 2002) as needing the scouts to find them. Afterall, we can all watch international games. However, if you are outside the top league, why on earth would they want to sign for you? How could you afford their wages?
