the majority of my players, and players in the other teams in the conference north/south as well as the welsh league which I have running, only sign 1 year contracts.

though the decent players are hard to retain for more than a season it does give you a chance to boot out the crap players with less fuss and get new crap players in to replace them.

It's probably because the contract details for these levels of football have not been extensively researched. Which is a good thing, as you said.

A team from the lower leagues more than likely would use short-term contracts as money is so tight. A lot of players there are "journeymen"; they move from club to club every season or two.

From going to watch about half a dozen Conference games a season I certainly find several new players in the squad each time I turn up. Short term contracts are pretty common. Easy to get rid of them too like that.

My Board told me to limit the lengths of contracts at the end of season one.

Danager i find with these short-term contracts, is that you do have to overspend and/or offer full time contracts to keep your best players at the club. The annoying thing i find, is that while the playing staff are on long-term contracts, the backroom boys aren't and are generally not very good IMHO and are a pain in the behind to get rid of.
