I've found that persevering with them increases their ratings, it's just the first 4 or 5 games where they score really badly.

The biggest problem is to know when an out of position player is actually having a stinker. You're so used to seeing them getting 4/5, substituting them always seems a random guess.

I am having the same problems with my first LLM game for FM2005. It's great having a team without enough players to cater for positions. Actually i do have a guy that can play it, but he gets three's and four's anyway. No idea how he is actually made it to the Finnish 1st Division in the first place, he only has 1 leg. I guess it's equal opportunity in the workplace.

In my case I played a DML at AML position and the first few matches he got the 3's and 4's but after that he quite often got 7's in that position (with the occasional 4 still in there though)

If people actually watched the games to some degree, they would know how their players are playing... I notice people getting through seasons in a couple of days were as I get through a couple of games every few days... I played my AML in a AMR position, played a 3 but set up the winner... and his overall play was great while in that position... But you wouldn't see all that if you're watching minimal highlights...

If you're playing someone out of position, it's because you have no other option or as their stats indicate they are suited to a position where you are weak. AMLs or AMRs tend to be skillful players of whom most LLMs don't have (m)any of on the bench, so even when losing, you're likely to persist with a creative player who's under-performing.

Watching the full match is sensible if it's the first time you've played someone in an odd place (ain't that what friendlies are for? - planning for emergencies). Minimal highlights are definitely dubious as they never show a player's true contribution or flow of the match.

I do like the way that a performance of 4 goes up to 7/8 as soon as there's a goal or assist (much as a jeered player in RL is suddenly re-appraised or at least "Well even he couldn't miss that one").

I prefer to use extended highlights meself... ot everything, but enough to realise once again that my team is lacking in most departments... The ballboy is our star man...

I tend to go by the match stats to see how a player has done. If he made most of his passes and tackles (or, at least, as many as I would expect him to) then I generally leave him be.

Not his fault the testers can't do their jobs properly.

Normally friendlies are to get your club into match fitness, and if you were able to plan for emergencies, then that, in essence, would not be an emergency, just a situation that had been planned for.

Regardless, a 3 for playing out of position is not acceptable, and from most accounts it has been rectified in the patch so it really needs no further mention.

Apart from this, the most annoying bug must be the keeper bug. I've conceded an ridiculous amount of goals directly from my own keepers horrendous passes directky to the opposition, despite my intense gesturing to pass it to my full backs. Ah, the trials we must go through.
