Except that EMI is his record label.

Still, that mistake isn't as bad as turning up for an 07 clan game when you don't even have 07.

1. I've taken a gamble, as previously stated real life managers do this, the Swede that was in charge of England signed several players for Man City in the summer having never seen them play, as well as the Scottish bloke with the rosy cheeks, correct me if I'm wrong but the bloke currently under investigation for corruption once signed a bloke for Southampton based on the opinion of a former African legend, the said player joined Southampton came on as a sub before being substituted and being released to a much lower division.

I think the Swede only siging players on video footage was a journalistic licence TBH even he isn't that stupid, as for the Southampton example it was a case of the lad blagging it & teh WPoftheYear never recommended it it was his mate pretending to be said player

4. With the lack of an option to ask a previous associate for their opinion on a player, I've based my gamble on the league that the team who are offering me the player are in, my opinion is that success rate of this would be similar to real life.

There is an option in the game, you can ask your current players for a recommendation

I really don't see what is unrealistic in taking a gamble on a player that has been offered to you? Perhaps this is a grey area, but the advice I've seen for previous grey areas is to think would a real life manager do this? My answer is that it is down to the individual manager as much in FM as it is in real life.
As a final thought you are the chairman of a club, finances are tight so your managers transfer dealings need to be spot on beofre you sign the cheque. If your manager comes to you saying he's got a deal for Carlos Kickaball from Brazil, you ask him what he's like as a player & the manager tells you he's never seen him or heard of him but because Brazil have one 5 world cups he must be good are you really going to part with the cash?

As far as I'm concerned what you are proposing isn't in the spirit of LLM.

I'd agree with that what your say in principle Barside.

I do have a couple of points though.

I've not played FM much since around cm4, now I vaguely remember the time the stat masking feature was introduced, I also remember that if you hadn't scouted a player your chairmen wouldn't let spend as much money on the player, is this still a feature?

The club I'm currently at in my game are making around £100k profit per month and are very much in the green.

One player was signed on a free, the other player I signed for £65k as a replacement to the star striker I just sold for £1000000. Both seem like very acceptable gambles in my opinion.

I do get where you coming from & as a bloke who enjoys a gamble IRL I can understand your methods. It's a bit like asking every lass in the club for a s**g, eventually one will say yes & every so often one might actually be quite good looking. However (& back to the transfer market rather than the local cattle market) the next logical step to what you are sugesting is trawling through squad lists in historically strong footballing nations looking for cheap young players & signing them with the hope they are half decent.

I guess a line has to drawn somewhere & you're very close to crossing it.

It's a very fine line I agree.

I am very interested to know whether the feature of chairman not allowing you to spend to much money on un-scouted players is still in place?

I've re-read the guidelines that say you should scout all players before signing them, but I feel that maybe this wasn't something that was considered?

As a side note, as my knowledge of Brazil has decreased (I haven't managed there in 4 years) I've been offered less and less players the last one being the £65k striker I signed nearly a season ago. I will be keeping my eye on that, if the number of players being offered to me is indeed linked to my knowledge of the Brazilian league this actually seems like quite a clever feature.

Maybe you should watch Mike Bassett: Manager, more specifically the episode where he signs the Dutch player, van Needlemans*.

*Note to those note familiar, this is a fictional player in a fictional TV sitcom. </BLOCKQUOTE>

I got a dvd entitled Mike Bassett: England Manager, the other year.

That would obviously have to be related to this show you mention, that I have never heard of, right??

TV show came after the film IIRC, both are classics.

Yes, like Barside said. The TV series is a spin off from the movie you have, where Bassett followed failed spells at Newcastle and (I think) Colchester following his England role, ends up at the fictional League Two side Wirral County.

If you liked the movie, you'll like the TV series.

Thank you so much, that is excellent news.

I loved Mike Bassett: England Manager and I will do whatever I can, to lay my hands on this.

Oh and while we are talking about football related television, does anyone remember a comedy show about this local football team chasing cup glory. The things I remember were:

-An older and think overweight player gets dropped before the final and he then takes great delight in the final result and makes his feelings known to the manager.

-The manager attempts suicide, in one of the final scenes. Due to his efforts seemingly being all for naught.

-I think one of the players wives gets an abortion/indicates that she had an abortion, in one the final scenes.

-The cup that they were chasing, was called the "Streaky Bacon League Cup"

Anyway thanks again, for the Mike Bassett news
