Started up a new save with all UK, Irish, Scandinavian and a bunch of Eastern European leagues loaded. Few clicks of the random button gave me a suitable home: Kilkenny Ciity in Ireland's 1st division
1st off, the squad looks pretty woeful, for some reason there's 6 MCs and none of them are any good. Matter of fact, there's straight out not much quality at all. The game started at July, so I've already missed about 2/3 of the season, and start in 8th with 3 wins to our name from 18 games... not a great start and already out of all cups. At least the board are nice to me and don't hold me accountable. Midway through we move up in the world - signing a Scout!
I run through a few tactics I've used before with various teams & levels, none seem to work, so I start flipping through the SI standards until 1 clicks - even popping up a news item, which has never happened to me before! End of the season, not much changes - although we do play some good football for draws and near losses, finishing with 8 wins. Towards the end of the season, I find a nice DR who's uncontracted, and make my first signing
Season: 8th position
Top scorer: 1 Striker on 12, one on 11 goals
Player of the Year: 11 goal striker
Sign 5 players on frees, get rid of 2, plenty more are hard to shift. A DM/AMC, a quality ML, an AML/ST from England - a former leagure superstar with a huge tally of 7 goals, a DR/MRC & coach, and a DMC. I sack the Assistant Manager (coz he's a spud) on a mutual and try and shop some players around - no love
Media prediction is 8th, not helped by not being able to find an assistant manager of any sort, without paying an exorbitant release fee. Well, exorbitant if the club was able to pay more than $5.25...
Season kicks off much like last finished, some good goals, almost always early, then we always let one or two in. Hmm. New striker and ML are on fire, averaging well above 6 (!). After 9 games sit on 0-3-6, worst defence in the league & not enough goals. Manage a nice draw with the standout best team, who feature a former (ENGLISH!) Premier League midfielder in their line-up. It's obvious no-one wants to come and be my assistant, so I just sign my coach. Actually that draw is something of a turning point - another switch of tactics late in that game produced some good form, so I continue using it. Not a great idea. 2 months later, at the end of November, I'm given the sack
Season 4:
27/11/2010
Realise I've been on holiday without the "wake me up for a job offer" button ticked. Whoops. Click it, and immediately an offer comes in, from Swedish 1st division side Timra. Instructions from the board are to establish myself within the division within 2 years. Can't be too hard, surely? They're offering me something called a "transfer budget..." - might need to find out what that entails exactly!
I really don't know how they earn their money, obviously seats at the 1000 seat stadium are on the pricey side
Squad's filled with youngsters, 2 darn good 18yo keepers in the U18 squad & another good young'un in the seniors
A good 18yo striker as well, not much seasoned talent and not much in between the bookends. To compound my problems, 3 of the 18 man squad I start with have signed elsewhere in the new year. Was it something I said? Balancing this out is a nice 21yo AMRC who arrives in the new year. Now it's only about 6 positions I have to fill for a half-decent side...
