Make a new shortlist. There's an option (not at home so can't check FM for you) to stop displaying news on shortlists. You can't turn this off on the default shortlist but you can for ones you've created. IIRC any scouted players get added to whichever shortlist you looked at last so your new shortlist will act like the default without the media.
You're stuck with the pre-match media comments though.

Only thing that annoys me is repeatedly being offered crappy players by crappy clubs.

I was all in favour of being asked what I thought of the upcoming game in FM06 when it was against a top team or a big cup game but to be asked when its midtable vs midtable gets a tad annoying..

The constant pre-match questions are annoying however the media isn't just made up of the national press/TV/Radio, you'll have your local paper & matchday programme pestering you for a comment aswell so to be asked about each & every game is realistic.

Rather than having this feature toned down I'd prefer to see a wider array of possible answers.
