It would seem the ideal time to say "Thank you" to Giggsy for the sheer pleasure he has given to thousands of football lovers over the past 16 years, as he closes his International career with Wales.
In many ways, you could perhaps wonder why he chose to play for Wales rather than England, after being selected to represent England at schoolboy level. Even then it was obvious that Wales were never going to make the same progress in World Cup competitions as England. Not to have played in the final stages of a World Cup is without doubt a tragedy, but he loved his Welsh heritage.
As for his club career, he has to be regarded as one of football's gentlemen, never seeking publicity, a role model for any youngster, this added to such natural talent and speed of thought.
Had he not suffered with achilles problems throughout his career he would surely by now have broken Bobby Charlton's appearance record. He may well go on to achieve this remarkable feat, and I for one would love to see him do just that. In this day and age it's a rare thing indeed for a player to remain with the same club throughout his career.
Here's to you, Ryan, and keep those defenders guessing!!
A few things. In general I agree with your sentiments but he could never play for England as he was born in Wales to Welsh parents, therefore he's Welsh and proud of it. He represented England Schoolboys because he was AT SCHOOL in England and that is the qualification for that honor.
He will still be giving his all for Man Utd for at least the next couple of seasons so to be writing him off now is a little premature. The best way to celebrate him is to continue to cheer him on at OT and if he has another couple of good seasons he will over take Sir Bobby's record and extend his record as the most decorated player in English football.
Don't you think Ryan is more deserving of a Knighthood than Becks?
