I love Football Manager 2008, it's an immense game. We're getting to a point where there are so many things you can take control of that a real manager can. We're getting an excellent reflection of real life in the game. I'm finding it very enjoyable and rewarding. We're at a point, I feel, when we now need to move on - BIG style. I'm not talking lots of small new features, I'm talking one BIG change, that'll make the next game revolutionary.
One of these features, for me, is the option to take control of a real manager. You become Alex Ferguson for example. That way, there's not an unheard of 30 year old now in charge of Manchester United, you have simply become Alex Ferguson. You are already well heard of, in this scenario, you're already loved, and there are massive expectations, relationships already formed. Basically, you become a real life manager, this would offer a whole new perspective on the football managing experience. What's it like to be a top football manager - well here you are - you're Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger. You could even become an unemployed real manager. It'd just add a whole new option to the game, you already have a name, a history and expectations. This'd be a whole different way of playing it. Of course you could still be yourself but you'd have one of two options.
The second idea, has been mentioned by others but I think it needs that kick in the backside to bring it to the surface again.
The second idea is that you have to work your way up. You start off perhaps as an Under-18 Manager, or are an assistant manager, put in charge of the reserve team. You start from the bottom and work your way through the ranks. This shouldn't be compulsory, but again, it's another way of playing the game and adds more realism. Can you work your way up from Under 18's Manager at Vauxhall Motors to Head Coach at Real Madrid? It's just a whole new outlook on the game on offer as in suggestion one. I imagine this is the road the team at SI have already planned to go down, but for me, Football Manager 2008 is immense and now is time for the MASSIVE change to the whole system. Or atleast, the option of it.
Thanks for reading, please share your thoughts with me and everyone else.
i think the first idea could be good as an add-on option.
The second however, would open up a world of bugs. Tourbles, hours of extra coding work, and really wouldnt be THAT amazing. How boring would it be that after 10 years as an Under 18 coach no one still thinks you are good enough to become an actual manager? The novelty would wear off quick.
