Tracking. It really needs to have a tracking feature. So that if the user makes a mess of their db, they can simply click a button and revert the changes.

I can't stress the number of times people have come here and moaned that theire game won't start because they made too many changes for the game to handle. But then, the way this editor handles, you could simply add a year to someones age and the game would crash.

I'm not sure exactly why the editor is so problematic but there definitely are some problems in it.

If there can be any way to implement something into the game whereby you can have multiple databases and select which one to load up when creating a new game then that would be brilliant.

That's the two things at the top of my mind.

I discussed some time ago about some kind of export feature which would export any changes made to the original database to some kind of file which could then be imported to another editor.

The main benefit of this is that players could just send each other these files to each other instead of the db (which compressed, sits at about 34mb).

This sounds a bit like the EDT files to be honest but they're a good feature but EDT's are pretty small when it comes to database changes. Player moves, club changes here and there but nothing else.

I would love to not have to load all players/clubs in order to make changes to stadiums, media, weather, and so forth.

I don't see why they must be related in the editor by default.

Another thing which would be nice is to be able to search and sort players by various categories, like nationality, or reputation for instance instead of always having to look for a particular player.

Regarding the actual GUI... I really honestly wish the editor was a simple forms based editor. There's no need for fancy graphics and a full screen when past editors (Michael Nygreen's brilliant CM 03/04 editor being my point of reference) can have it all in a small window.

I know it's been a habit of SI's to tart it up a bit but there's no need for it. There's nothing wrong with vanilla Windows Forms and you guys shouldn't be afraid of a showing a bit of grey every now and again!

Now I'm sorry for triple posting here. I should shout at myself, but because I've lost my voice, and I'm so passionate about the editor and editing in general, I'm not!

They're related for a reason... Everything links into everything else.

Yes, I agree that there could be an option for non-global players to be excluded from db loads. By non-global, I mean the youth team for an obscure team in Brazil.

Top idea

Three bugs I've noticed:

1. When you delete the entire history of a club competition and then click another one, if you then go back to the original competition to try and add a year to the history you can only select national sides.

Eg: Go to English Premiership, clear history, click English Championship, go back to English Premiership hisory, click add, select sides, only nations are available.

2. If ammending the history of a non-domestic club competition, ie Champions League, when selecting a team by clicking the green arrow, you have to manually scroll through the list to the team you want, you can't simply type the first few letters in the box above and jump to that point.

3. Further to above, if you click the green arrow in the "data item dialogue" box and select any filters, eg nation, the editor crashes due to a runtime error.

The third one may just be my pc, but who knows?

They're the only ones that spring to mind at the moment, but I'm sure I remember a few others....

When I move a player to a new club to reflect a real life transfer, I also like to alter the 'date joined' and 'contract started' fields to a date just before the start of the game (so for FM 2005 I use June 1st 2004). It is annoying having to do this extra work for every transfer I make, so it would be nice if there was a button that, if clicked would update these field to a set date like June 1st. Obviously this would leave people with the ability to put in their own dates whilst making my job twice as quick.

It would also be good if there were more safeguards in the editor to prevent the inputting of data that may crash the game. Stricter rules about what can be input into a field would help.

Finally, a little more information about valid entries for a field would be nice. Sometimes I want to change an attribute rating but I don't know what the scale for that field is. I don't want to put 19 in if it's out of 120, and I don't want to put 110 if it's out of 20 so I'm scared off.

I'm still at a loss as to why exactly the game cannot handle everyone on the free transfer list. It worked perfectly in CM 03/04 but crashes on game creation in FM.

i maybe wrong but if this was made simpler then maybe that wd help performance on lower spec machines aswell.
Well, simpler graphics wouldn't really have much effect on CPU and memory because the graphics are static anyway and any drain on the system should be passed on to the GPU. It's the loading of the db in the first place which is the memory drainer.

It's just that the editor doesn't need to look elaborate, as long as it works!

Something certainly slows the editor down though.
Yes. It's to do with the fact that there are about 260,000 people able to speak 71 languages, getting 83 injuries in 18,000 clubs with 12,000 stadiums in 13,737 cities in 227 nations across 6 continents with 98 different types of weather, playing in 994 competitions challanging for 1,231 awards and getting praise or criticism from 164 different media sources for it.

I would expect a database of this magnitude would take some time to load.

Removing faces and backgrounds does speed the game up but that's because the game has to load them in each time you look at a different player and wotnot. If they were static, there wouldn't be much of a strain as it would effectively 'frame' the game.

I'll be very curious to see how SmileyDan's efforts for an FM API turn out and hopefully something will come of Stefan de Vogelaere's efforts with the db structure (which SI has now partially released!).

Also, Joe, is it possible for you to perhaps bullet some of the suggestions here so that newcomers to the thread do not repeat the suggestions already given here?
