I would personally like that foreigner rules could be changed.
Also changing feeder clubs (if it is implemented).
Making neighbour countries more tied in terms of club signing a player from neighour county. (don't know if I explained it well)

Those are more game-related issues rather than issues regarding the editor. Regarding the feeder clubs though, yes that it is a good idea.

Arsenal71: Full db loading would still eat up memory (most likely more that if it was random access. Although I have a feeling that the editor still reserves portions of memory that isn't always used by it. In a full db loading solution, the time taken to load the editor would be longer but the time taken to switch between different values would be smaller. This would allow editor pro's to use the db more effectively but weigh heavily on those only wishing to change a few values. Some kind of option to set whether you want the db fully loaded or not would be nice in this case. That way the editor can have a balance between short loads (quick edits) or long loads (lots of editing).

Wouldn't there be a problem in that pointers to data in other parts of the db would be corrupted by introducing new portions of data to it. There would need to be alterations to the pointers in the other tables which would require an entire db.

I'll add another vote for those with slightly lower-end machines. My Intel is 2.4 but RAM is only 256. I have loaded the editor up once but it had so much of a fit that I didnt even touch anything with it.

Maybe the option to load sepearte sections of the db, i.e. just English clubs could help?

Something like MCFM is a little too simple, where as the official editor is the other end of the spectrum IMO. I dont know squat about data or their respective bases, though, so best of luck with any changes you make.

I would like to be able to edit teams(B,C,2,3...) their details, to change kits strips and colours, to put some staf in their board to edit the attendance(max, min and avr.) also their training facilities, to put in rival clubs, to edit competitions panel and to be able to put a team(not a club) in a staf favourite/disliked club box that is all for now

The ability to create your own 'defaults' would be handy.

For example, whenever moving a player to a new club, your default data will be used as the 'joined date', rather than 1 January 2004 or whatever it currently is.

It would also be handy if, when creating a new player, their birthplace automatically gave them nationality. It's quite annoying to create someone from, say, Edinburgh and still have to specify they're Scottish (I know not it's not necessarily by birthplace but in the majority it is).

A small change in layout, so that all the key attributes were on one screen: personal details; club; and playing position(s).

Nice thread here!
As I am back from my (well deserved) holidays, I'll continue in a couple of days with my API for FM. SI released the header files but at first sight there is still some missing info. But as promised to Dan, I'll post them in the Programmers Oracle when I come to the files in my API.

A lot of your ideas are on my list, but I'll try to concentrate on the API first. I think it would be very handy to create light weight editors to just edit some transfers instead of loading all the competition histories etc. Main idea is still to be able to export these things (for example in an XML file) and then combining effort of a lot of people into a new "updated" DB. My idea would be to start from the official released db and work from that source. What do you folks think?

Another idea, which I once proposed to build for SI is an online, web based database. Creating profiles and roles various people could work on the data; especially you could get info from contributors that doesn't necessarily play FM. A part of the site could be transfers, and that's the kind of think you do not need to be a FM player for.

An online db has been proposed and partially created by Smiley Dan but the idea is still very good for update communities to get involved in. This idea has larger repurcussions also for updating the game officially as it's currently parsed from MS Access db's and then outputted into SI's proprietry fb format IIRC.
