I'm currently Barca, and have developed a tactic which I use from the main team to the C team.
It's a kind of a cross between what they use in real life at the main team/La Masia and what works in FM.
The tactic is basically: (I won't use the code tags as it will go wrong )
GK, DR, DL, DC, DC
MC (set to very defensive style of play)
MC (set to very attackingstyle of play)
AML/AMR
AMC running into to the right of the striker positions (e.g. diagionally up-right)
FC left of the two FC positions
This results in a massive amount of possesion (even when I lose), a great number of shots (ditto), however the shots on target is pretty low.
Try something like having your strikers mentality lower then the Wingers and attacking midfielder. That might get him more into play. However you are Barcelona so most teams will play defensive and low d-line and try to hit you on the break so shots on target will be low sometimes. Just try and committ people and leave DC and the defensive MC behind, should be enough cover to prevent counters.
I'm using a variant of the normal 4-3-3 that you get in the "Standard Tactics" drop-down for Norwich County in 2016. I've onnly just got appointed the job, they're in the Championship, but after a little tweaking it seems to work really well, especially against supposedly stronger opposition.
It's really more of a 4-5-1 than a 4-3-3, so I guess it is very possible for a single-striker-tactic to work.
This formation works a treat for me, using the lone striker as a target man (ball played to head, forward runs set to rarely). Barrows on the 2 MCs, however the left has a more attacking mentality than the right. I use this tactic with Werder Bremen and have had great success. Would be happy to go into more detail
