You need to win a few key battles:
1: Shots (naturally)
2: Shots to Shots on target ratio (more difficult)
3: Pass percentage (should be aiming for 70% minimum)
4: Possession
5: Possession in the middle third (check "action zones")
If you're losing any of these then your tactic isn't working. The passing is obvious - you need to either go longer or shorter, depending on what works (play 5 minutes on each and see what happens), and ditto with tempo. As a rule of thumb, go shorter first.
You also need to play wider to exploit the space caused by the opposition's narrowness.
As for shots, you could try employing Counter Attack. Sounds bizzare, but it makes quality chances over quantity. And that's what you need.

"Superior players" does not equal "right to win". If the opposition parks a bus in front of goal and timewastes from the word go, you have to find a way to counter it. This is exactly the same in real life. There will be many games over the season where Rangers and Celtic will struggle or even get beaten by average teams. It's because they can't break down a solid and well organised defence. This is what you need to work out how to do, and that's the burden of being a "big" club.
