I'm playing as Liverpool, and have an exceptional home record, p9 w9 so far this year. However away from home, playing the same formation I've p8 l7 d1.
Playing a pretty standard 442, reasonably attacking. ML and MR with forward arrows to AML and AMR, one MC more defensive and closing down often, the other with a forward run to AMC, and lots of creative freedom. Full backs not particularly attacking, playing offside trap and slightly quicker than average tempo.
Team is
GK - Reina
DR - Alves
DL - Aurelio
DC - Agger
DC - Carragher
ML - Gonzalez
MR - Gerrard
MC (defensive) - Sissoko/Mascherano
MC (attacking) - Riquelme/Alonso
FC - Bent/Crouch
FC - Saviola/Pongolle
Away from home I just get absolutely slaughtered against everyone, have lost to all 3 promoted teams. At home I'm sensational, beat Man U 5-0, Chelsea 3-0 and Arsenal 4-0.
On the verge of getting sacked due to away form, tried playing more defensive and on the counter attack. Tried playing Alonso rather than the lightweight riquelme in centre mid.
I think you have to go a bit more defensive away from home and I think this reflects it in real life. When playing away from home try maybe lowering your mentality for your players and if it's a match you're not expected to win then tick counter attack as that, for me, means that you're taking a more defensive stance and hitting on the counter where teams that are expected to win at home against you will be pushing forward
Not all, I always keep my striker (I play with a target man but seeing as you have two keep your best one) on a mentality of 20. Maybe have more normal in midfield and defensive in defence.
