On the whole wage budgets seem more reasonable, however, I find that I am struggling at Bolton, partly due to the stupidity of the AI.

Only having been out of the Prem for three seasons, there are still a number of Premiership quality players, with wages to match. The squad is paper-thin (except for strikers) and we are still £30k-odd over the weekly wage budget of £60k.

I can understand having wages restricted for new signings (but I can't attract anyone midfielders sufficient quality for £950 p/w). What I don't understand is that there is scope for saving money by renegotiating contracts, but the board will only let me offer £950 p/w to anyone, so I can't get the guys on £11k+ p/w to renegotiate to, say, £8k. Additionally, valuable players will be leaving on Bosman's because (quite rightly) they will not resign for a fraction of their current wage , whereas if we could get them to resign, they could be flogged to try and stop the slide deeper and deeper into the red.

This seems to be quite a problem when rising through the divisions, Michal.

The way I see it, it's the old 'reputation not increasing as quick as it should' from 03/04 but magnified.

It's a problem with Bolton dropping through the divisions (like a stone), not the other way around. Instead of allowing me to cut wages by offering reasonably reduced contracts to big earners (and hence ease the parlous financial situation) the board will only allow me to offer an absolute pittance - a lose-lose situation. Can't get players on big, long contracts to take a bit of a cut, and players who could be sold to fund the debt are going on a free, because they're not interested in pitiful wages.
