I have started in Conference South in a bid to launch my managerial career and maybe in the future be offered a job at a big club
Conference South 2004/05 = Season 1
Took over as manager of Cambridge City. The board expected a safe mid table position in the league and that would do me fine in my first season here at the City Ground. To acheive this they gave me a transfer budget of sweet FA. The media were not so sure they predicted a relegation battle - cheers fellas
This season was to get to know the place, my players and build a squad that could push for promotion next season.
First I sorted the backroom staff, an assistant 2 coaches and a scout were brought in and we were ready to go.
Its November and the club has seen 11 players come in at a cost of £7,000 and also a league striker in on loan. 9 players had departed bringing in £28,000 so some good dealing in the transfer market. Although I was a little over the wage budget.
Things had gone well so far I was sitting top of the table with a record of P10 W8 D1 L1 F22 A7 PTS 25. In the FA Cup draws against Ryman League Clubs tempted me to play reserve players - wins over Dover and Maldon were followed by a loss to Cinderford in 4th round qualifying - maybe I should have played my strongest team. Oh well there is always the FA Trophy.
