Can I just point out that I think that I answered the original question some time back (ah, yes 11.15 yesterday). So the arguement that no-one wants to discuss it is entirely :kostis:.

If ya don't like the rules or have a grey area, then use your discretion and play how you wanna play. I personally play by 98% of the LLM rules and I'm happy with that. You do what you have to do but don't start asking in here coz the rules are near enough set in stone and you're running up against a brick wall... If you think you're the guy that gonna bring a discussion or change to the rules, think again... Either that or start you own Forum!! :o

I might start a different thread about it in a bit. However as it concerns realism and how much a real manager would know. Its probably pushing the rules in a couple of areas so I'm not sure whether its worth putting up here.
I like the LLM idea but I think your collective emphasis is different then mine.

What you're saying would go into the area of guessing too many things Marius.
We like to take a different approach: We start the game with nil, zero, nada, zitch... knowledge of the FM world. This is by far more realistic than guessing your manager's background and his 'possible' knowledge of the area he manages in.
My way of starting a career game with FM2005:
Start a save.
Choose a team (or start unemployed).
Go to job center and advertise vacant positions (if managing a team).
Sign needed non-playing staff (if any is needed).
Send your scouts out (if you have any).
Pay heed to media stories, scout reports and monthly awards.
Trial in unattached players recomended by my scout.
Evaluate trialists (both personally and by the other coaching staff).
Sign recommended trialists and players scouted I feel I need.
Pray everything I know and start the league in the vain hope we're staying out of relegaion trouble for this season.
If you follow this method, by the sixth month you're managing you will already have a 50+ players shortlist (at the very least).
By the time you've managed a season you'll even know who's hot and who isn't amongst the teams you've played against.

Damned split personality!!
In my previous post wherever I say 'we' or 'I' I'm referring to the way I see things. By no means my view on this has to represent the opinion of every zealot and/or LLaMa around.
Sorry if it looked otherwise.

All fair and square. Now tell me, how would you try players if you have only u19s and a frist squad team with 15 players in it?
What I usually do is get players on triel in pre or mid season. After that it is buy 'em as you see 'em. Based on scout report of-course

Is that a tricky question?
Of course I do (that's the only way of having some idea of how the player is like). But I also find useful to see them playing (friendlies, etc...), what my backroom staff think about them...
There's definitely more in a player than his profile.
I've signed players whose profile would make you think he was the big next thing and later were utter p[/i]Ã*[/i]sh for my team. On the other hand, I have had several which looked crap but did an excellent job for my team.
