Or I have a life outside the forums that I was dealing with.
Maybe that is part of the difference. I view this forum, and all online forums, as a slow exchange of ideas not a real time conversation. To me a good rules/guidelines discussion is something that can go on in the background for days.

My position is that there is room for discussion. Don't just brush off the newcomer with "we've settled it; go read an old thread."
BTW, I probably should not have used the phrase "rules and guidelines" because I agree with the general wisdom on the difference. I like "no player naming" even though it means I find most updates lack any story. My main objection is to saying "must we really go over this again" to SB's original post that contained one gray area / guideline issue (how do we realistically use the transfer or player list screens) and one forum rule issue (player naming).

Well, the people who use this forum generally has a stake in it.
Why?
This isn't just a forum, it's a community. We don't mind a friendly discussion, however, there are things that we don't need to discuss for the umpteenth time. especially when no dew data is brought to the table.
Believe me, we've heard these things before. We don't intend to be rude. We may come off that way, but I assure you that it is unintentional.

As Donald said, we do not need to discuss this particular subject again, because if you search the forum you this and similar questions relating to the original discussion have been addressed fully.
If you are willing to discuss another aspect of LLM, then please do, start a thread and we will dismiss it, I mean discuss it. (safety wink times 10000 )

Shrug. If you are bored with discussing the whys of various rules and guidelines just don't discuss them. Leave it for the people who want to discuss it.
How can a community based on an idea (playing in a better/more realistic/more challenging way) grow if new members have to spring forth fully conversant in and accepting of a set of arbitrary rules? If these rules and guidelines can't be discussed here where can they be discussed?

I believe you. I've also seen this same situation with regards to analysis of baseball in the early to mid nineties. Our community, the "statheads" on r.s.bb. thought that we had a better way to look at baseball (rating players, judging trades, playing GM and the like). But over time we stopped explaining things and just kept refering people to old discussions. When that happened the vibrant group of people dissolved as very few new people entered the conversations.

Well, the forum rules are not to be questioned. If you post here, you abide to them. End of.
The guidelines are about playing the game. They have been discussed to death, and it's understandable most of the regulars can't be arsed to go through them again - they've done so for many years now. Not saying you're wrong btw, just pointing out why some are not willing to discuss.
...What was it you wanted to talk about again? |

Just like most areas of life, there are rules and guidelines, you abide by the rules follow the guidelines. If you don't you get:

Sacked
Banned
Arrested
Embarresed
