I chose St Albans purely becuase I once lived there and watched them play a few times, I thought this would add a further sense of realism and pride. I was not disappointed.
First season we ended up slap bang in the middle of the table just as the board had requested, so both they and the fans are currently happy with my progress. From an attacking point of view my team can only be rivaled by the very top clubs in the division but defensively I have been nothing short of apalling (much like a lot of my spelling!) I scored over 80 goals and still ended up with a goal
diff of only +4!!
Trying to find good quality loan players, most notably a goalkeeper who can stop at least one shot and defenders who can defend, was proving a fruitless task. Oddly enough I have had no trouble in recruiting midfielders and attackers hence the impressive form on front of goal. Many a game has been won 3-2, 4-3 even 5-4! (I was 4-1 up in this game, pulled back to 4-4, last minute winner had me running up and down the train aisle! Most of my playing is on the train as I commute 5 hours daily)
I have been busy in the close season to try and build for season 2 but I fear I may have shot myself in the foot. I have a tendancy to bid for as many free transfers as I can in an attempt to bolster a flagging and aging squad but only succeed in blowing my wage allocation.
I think this season will be make or break for me. I am unable to offload any players to reduce my wage bill which is currently £975 over budget (not a good stat for LLMs). I have tried to cancel contracts of some reserve players by mutual consent but they refused and I can't afford to give them free transfers. It's promotion or bust and I can't wait.
The fans of St Albans have been loyal and they deserve Premiership football and "I aim to deliver"!
