Default I've got yet laughable pittance of a basic wage right here...

Well I can see one of my pet peeves is still with us in FM. I go to sign a transfer listed Northern Irish midfielder who is currently sitting in a Scottish 3 Div reserve squad. I had liked this player when I managed there, and he was happy enough on his £65/week. I go to sign him for my conference south side at £200/week and he laughs at the pittance of a basic wage. But the bugger is happy with less that a 1/3 of that for another two year with the reserves. Argh

Would you leave Scotland to play in the south of England for £200 per week?

I feel your pain. I had a fabulous teenage superkeeper, and I offered him as much as the board allows, but he turned us down and took a free. (He was on 250, I offered 300 and a big signing fee).

He's currently been unemployed for 9 months, rather than taking a pay raise

Having just moved to a bigger rep team, I am trying to sign him again. Despite offering 750 (my max now), he's still happy with the unemployment money, unless I can pony up 1500 a week.

What I think this needs is some different text that has some useful feedback value. Maybe slow but steady Northern Irish midfielder stuck in the Queen's Park reserves has a great day job that he doesnt want to give up to come play full time football in Aylesbury. Maybe hes a barrister or a solicitor or whatever you lot call lawyers these days .

Nonetheless, it twists my shortpants when guys would rather stay on £50/week or worse, UNEMPLOYED as you point out, than take my £250/week or whatever decent wage I can afford to pay. I wish someone would offer me £200/week to kick a ball about a pitch

Right, 18 year old chap is getting £50 per week from his local club, lives at home, his parents buy all his food, clothes and probably put the petrol in the car and pay his council tax. He has £50 per week tax free disposable income.

18 year old chap gets job at £250 per week (£200 after tax and National insurance).
He pays £75 per week rent to share a house.
He pays his council tax share £10 per week.
He pays £20 per week to travel back and forth to the ground for training and matches.
He pays £50 per week for food.
He pays £10 per week for his share of gas, electric water etc.
He now has £35 per weeek disposable income.

Now this 18 year old chap goes on the dole
He receives £80 per week and gets his rent and council tax paid. He gets a few days paid work (Cash in hand) and makes another £100 per week tax free.
He can now afford to run a car and go on holiday twice a year.
